Beatrice Pittman works with craft, dialogue, and the presence of people as her primary materials. In her practice, she creates situations in which people, materials, and environments can meet. Rather than being predetermined, the work unfolds in the moment as a form of inquiry, guided by attunement, bodily experience, and response. Gatherings, rituals, and the placement of objects are approached as acts of weaving: temporary structures through which relationships become visible and tangible.
Craft functions as a tool to organize time, attention, and focus. Pittman often takes on the role of a spaceholder, creating conditions for encounter, slowing down, and collective action. She works with textiles, wool, ceramics, moving image, and mixed media, always in service of situational practice. People are not an audience but active participants, and impermanence is embraced as part of an ecological and cyclical way of thinking. Rituals, traditional crafts, and embodied forms of knowledge form an underlying layer within her work.
